Evaluation of Water Quality Degradations in a Distribution System and Premise Plumbing Systems
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 11/01/2009

Document Format: PDF

Description

This research evaluates the chemical and bacteriological water quality deterioration from treatment plant finished water to the point of consumption in the Bangkok, Thailand, water distribution system, and focused on the role of water transmissionmains and extension distribution systems (premise plumbing) on water qualitydeteriorations. Samples were collected with an extensively spatial and temporal pattern to examine thewater quality deteriorations (physical, chemical and microbiological water qualitychanges) in the Bangkok metropolitan area. Locations were included with various premisetypes (school, residential, hospital, business), premise plumbing design (storage, wet firesystem, and filtered or unfiltered) and water use patterns (high/low demand, day/nightdemand). Statistical analysis was conducted to find if significant predictors exist forwater quality deteriorations within these systems. The effectiveness of engineeringinterventions would be evaluated upon successful identification of contamination/regrowthsources.
