Effect of Oxidation of Dissolved Organic Matter on Micropollutant Adsorption by Granular Activated Carbon
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 11/01/2008

Document Format: PDF

Description

Preoxidation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) is shown to effect adsorbability of targetpollutants in the nanogram-per-liter range. Preoxidation with free chlorine was shownnot to effect breakthrough or equilibrium. Potassium permanganate and chlorine dioxideare shown to improve adsorption, but to varying degrees based on water and the probemicropollutant. Further research is needed to understand the effect of oxidation of DOMon micropollutant adsorption for effective process planning and plant operation. Includes 6 references, tables, figures.
