This slide presentation outlines a study to investigate strategies for Stage 2 complianceat the largest filter plant (80 MGD) of the Birmingham Water Works. The project goal was todetermine the feasibility of utilizing granular activated carbon (GAC) filteradsorbers to achieve Stage 2 compliance bymeans of a pilot-scale study. Topics covered include: mobile pilot plant; pilot testing matrix and evaluation criteria; Comparison of UV-254 Removal Rates; Heterotrophic Plate Counts (HPCs); total organic carbon (TOC) removal; disinfection byproduct (DBP) formation testing; total trihalomethane (TTHM) formation potential; Turbidity Removal Results; and future work.
