Hybrid Process for Dissolved Organic Matter Removal in Drinking Water Resources
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 11/01/2006

Document Format: PDF

Description

Processes currently used to treat resources from Brittany, especially the ones in Rennes, arenot efficient enough for a significant removal of dissolved natural organic matter. Trials werecarried out with powdered activated carbon (PAC) and settled water which indicated goodremoval rates. Hence a pilot unit based on the coupling of membranes and PAC was set up inthe drinking water treatment plant of Rennes Villejean, France. On one hand, physical-chemicalparameters (DOC, UV absorbance, SDI…) enable us to characterize the dissolved organicmatter removal, and on the other hand, a continuous data acquisition was set up to gethydraulic parameters. Two main periods of pilot experiments were carried out using threeidentical reactors in parallel. Includes 6 references, tables, figures.
