Description

Costa Brava is a coastal resort area located in northeastern Spain that has atradition of 28 years of planned water resources management. Consorci de la CostaBrava (CCB, Costa Brava Water District) was created in 1971, at the time coastalrecreation became fashionable, in order to manage water supply and wastewatersanitation in the 27 towns included in a coastal stretch 200 kilometers south ofthe Spanish-French border. Although drinking water supply, based on transfersfrom inland surface water reservoirs, and wastewater treatment and disposal incoastal areas have been the two main activities of CCB for years, plannedwastewater reclamation and reuse has become an additional element of watermanagement over the last ten years. The objective of this paper is to discuss thenumerous aspects involved in planning, implementing, analyzing, operating andmaintaining, and understanding public perception of different wastewaterreclamation and reuse projects carried out by CCB over the last ten years.
