CT Requirements for Disinfection of Cryptosporidium in Natural Waters
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1997

Document Format: PDF

Description

The CT requirements to achieve 1 to 4 logs of inactivation of Cryptosporidium have been reported for alternative disinfectant studies performed using laboratory-grade water but a translation of this data to natural source water is needed in order to develop disinfection design criteria that can be implemented at full-scale treatment plants. Water quality parameters will affect disinfectant dose-residual relationships by affecting disinfectant demand and decay rates. What is unclear is whether differences in water quality parameters can also directly affect the kinetic rate of disinfection of Cryptosporidium oocysts. This study is designed to address this question by determining the relationship between the inactivation of Cryptosporidium oocysts and the product of disinfectant residual (C) and disinfectant contact time (T) for alternative disinfectants applied to a wide variety of potable waters.
