Integration of MBR Technology and Desalting Membranes for Water Reuse
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 03/01/2005

Document Format: PDF

Description

This slide presentation outlines information on the integration of membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology and desalting membranes for water reuse. Project objectives include: evaluate MBR systems recently introduced to the U.S.market;assess the impact of adding coagulant andpolymer to the MBR feed water on MBR performance;evaluate MBR performance under extreme operatingconditions (increased flux, low HRT); evaluate several different desalting membranes(NF/RO) following pretreatment by MBR;perform cost analysis by comparing cost ofconventional and MBR as pretreatment to RO, and bydetermining the cost associated with RO duringwastewater reclamation; and, evaluate the ability of commercially availableMBR/RO process units to remove EDC/PPCPsfrom advanced primary effluent. The materials and methods outlined include: pilot testing performance; pilot treatment train; new and established suppliers of MBR pilot systems; MBR membrane specifications; desalting membrane specifications; MBR pilot operating conditions; RO operating conditions; MBR performance data including particulate removal, organic removal, inorganic nitrogen removal; MBR microbial rejection; RO performance data including water quality data; EDC/PCPPs Analysis; cost analysis; conventional train; MBR train; cost items: ditch + MF and MBR; cost items: chlorine contact and ultraviolet (UV); and, cost items: reverse osmosis. Includes tables, figures.
