Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 04/27/2003

Document Format: PDF

Description

Implementing a valve management program to reduce the number of non-working valves in the system has a direct effect on the reliability of a water system and the satisfaction level of the main source of revenue, the customer. The reliability of a water distribution system is measured by its ability to deliver a satisfactory level of service. Reliability is knowing the system is working correctly, and the ability to consistently deliver an acceptable quantity and quality of water at a suitable pressure with minimum interruptions and outages, water quality impacts, inoperable valves, hydrants, and main breaks. At the Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD), the measurement of success is based on a zero rate of unscheduled interruptions with acceptance of only minimal scheduled interruptions. This paper discusses the Preventive Maintenance Valve Operating Program that has been in operation at LVVWD for 12 years. Includes table, figures.
