Description

The Village of Hazel Crest, Illinois is a community on the far south side ofChicago. The Village is one of the many that received Lake Michigan wateroriginating in Chicago for distribution to its residents. The supervisory systemused to monitor and control the operation of the distribution system includingpumping station operation and reservoir levels, was antiquated and prone tofailures. This paper is based on a case study of the Village of Hazel Crest’sSupervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. The case study is usedas a back drop for discussing the do’s and don’ts when developing a successfulSCADA system.
