An Operative GIS – Distribution System Network Model Interface
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1994

Document Format: PDF

Description

Analyses of the global performance of distribution networks are essential in supporting many of the needs of water supply companies. Models are useful providing they maintain updated, detailed and reliable information, as is guaranteed, for example, by the Geographic Information Systems. Interfaces between GIS and Models are necessary to capture and transfer the required information from the place where it is stored and updated to the place where it is used for calculation. The simple fact that one has a detailed model is not reason enough to invest the great amount of effort necessary to collect the required data. It is essential that there also be a previous or parallel existence of a GIS to implement this kind of model. The interface program developed by Canal de Isabel II for the Community of Madrid, is currently in operation.
