Communicating the Value of the Partnership: A Large Municipal Utility's Perspective
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1999

Document Format: PDF

Description

Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWDSC) is committed at all levels of the organization to supplying the highest quality water to its customers. This commitment requires that water quality goals, such as those established by MWDSC and the Partnership for Safe Water, be communicated effectively internally within MWDSC’s organization, with MWDSC’s member agencies, and with the public. MWDSC’s Operations and Water Quality divisions work together closely to accomplish MWDSC’s water quality goals. Communication efforts between the two divisions and their staff involve the development of 100 Percent Compliance and Quality Assurance Teams, written procedures, and a Tracking-Teamwork-Training (Triple T) Program. Member agencies are notified of water quality improvements, goals, and current conditions through routine meetings and written communications (including emails and faxes). A toll-free telephone number with recorded water quality information is maintained to further communication efforts. Communication with the public includes Consumer Confidence Reports, press releases, public announcements, signage, and maintenance of a web site. In addition, specific public outreach programs have been initiated.
