Remote Monitoring and Control of Small Drinking Water Package Plant Systems
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1995

Document Format: PDF

Description

This project demonstrates remote telemetry using commercially available hardware and IBM PC telemetry software. A CUNO ultrafiltration (UF) drinking water package plant is chosen for a remote small systems package plant. The UF unit is sufficiently complex to allow a cost benefit to be gained from remote monitoring and control. Hardware requirements for the project include a remote telemetry unit, a central site generic personal computer, a modem for communications, and selected monitoring instrumentation. The process control and data acquisition software from Total Systems Resources (TSR) contain the protocol necessary to communicate with the specific remote telemetry unit used in the project. Parameters monitored remotely include permeate flow, pH, finished turbidity, high and low trans-membrane pressure, chlorine residual, raw pressure, permeate pressure, reject flow, raw flow, and raw turbidity. Parameters were selected based on reporting requirements and parameters necessary to monitor/control the remote plant.
