Chesapeake Section Customer Feedback Survey
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1995

Document Format: PDF

Description

The Community Relations Committee of Chesapeake Section AWWA surveyed public water consumers in the Chesapeake Region. The Chesapeake Section service area includes Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. The survey was done in response to the objectives set forth in the Section’s Strategic Plan. Consumers were asked to answer questions in the areas of water quality, service, cost, and conservation. Completed surveys were received from over 1,300 customers representing six different utilities in the Chesapeake Section. The main objective of this study was to assess the public’s perception of the water industry within the Chesapeake Section. This information could then be used throughout the section to assist utilities in better understanding the concerns and needs of their customers. The findings of the survey indicate that: in general, customers in the Chesapeake Section are satisfied with their water service; there is serious need to improve the confidence level customers have in the quality of their water; the comments received indicate an atmosphere of frustration and hostility among a number of customers. On the positive side, more than three quarters of the customers are satisfied with the amount of information and communication being provided.
