Increasing the Efficiency of Testing and the Accuracy of Test Results for Drinking Water Analysis
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 11/01/2008

Document Format: PDF

Description

The objectives of this project were to develop an integrated system of analysis to meetthe needs of an ever-changing workforce, to further simplify current methods of analysis, and to reduce labor and total analysis costs in order to meet the quality and cost controlobjectives set by utility management. The project was divided into two sections, chemistry and instrumentation, both of whichcontribute to developing a quality analysis system. It was recognized early on in theproject that further advancements could best be achieved by considering a completeintegration of the chemistry with the instrumentation. Several of those opportunities forimprovement were identified and are listed in the presentation. The presentation also identifies characteristics for methods used in routine drinking wateranalysis. Each issue was evaluated and considered for its impact on total systemperformance. The goal was to develop an integrated approach to eliminate opportunitiesfor errors and to keep labor requirements to a minimum while maintaining or improvingthe required analytical performance. Includes table.
