Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing the regulatory context for plumbing codes in Canada, and gives background information on a task group of stakeholders that was formed toaddress issues through the Plumbing Code. The current situation on temperature control to prevent scalding is outlined, along with an overview of health and safety issues withhot water, Legionella, technical issues, and considerations. Task Group recommendations included:limit temperature of water as delivered to baths andlavatories to 49ºC (120ºF);storage of hot water should be a minimum of 60ºC(140ºF);provide guidance on methods to achieve goals;should make reference to retrofits; and,consideration should be given to cost impacts ofimplementation. The status and draft of the Proposed Interim Change is provided.
