Description

In this paper the possible effect of climate change on the waterresources availability in Spain is considered and analyzed from the viewpoint ofminimizing their impact on supply reliability. After a brief comment about theconsideration of climatic change in water planning in Spain, recently availableresults are presented obtained from the IPCC TAR scenarios coupled to hydrologicalwater balance models applied on a wide set of river basins in Spain. Finally,conclusions and main results are resumed, showing guidelines for actual and furtherresearch. From a planning and management point of view, it can be shown that,integrated with many others measures, water transfers could be in some instances aneffective tool to minimize the climate change impact on water resources.
