Description

This standard covers the material, application, and curing of shop-applied, cement mortar protective linings and coatings for steel water pipe and fittings, and field jointing of cement mortar lined and coated steel water pipe and fittings. Section 1 discusses scope, purpose and application. Sections 2 and 3 list references and definitions. Section 4 discusses requirements, including: general; material; surface preparation; cement mortar lining; cement mortar coating; and, field joints. Section 5 discusses verification, including: sampling and testing cement mortar for linings; testing cement mortar for coatings; and, inspection and testing by the purchaser. Section 6 discusses delivery, including: general delivery; plastic end caps; and, affidavit of compliance. The major revisions in this edition of ANSI/AWWA C205-95 include the following: the standard was reformatted to reflect current AWWA standards organization and style; Sec. 4.2.3 (old Sec. 2.3) was revised to include new criteria for fine aggregates for cement mortar; Sec. 4.5.6.2 has been added, requiring that the moisture content of mortar batches not be less than 7 percent of the total dry weight of the mix; Sec. 4.5.6.3 has been added, limiting the temperature of the mortar mix to not less than 40 degrees F (4 degrees C) and the maximum surface temperature of the steel cylinder to 95 degrees F (35 degrees C); added a new requirement for adsorption testing of cement mortar used for coatings (Sec. 5.2.1); and, appendix A was moved to the body of the standard as Sec. 4.6, field joints.
