Description
This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection’s (NYCDEP) Wellhead Protection Program (WHPP) for its groundwater system. Groundwater protection strategies are presented, along with implementation examples. Lessons learned include: water utility does not have complete controlover protection activities;cooperation between agencies required andbeneficial to both organizations;initial implementation has resulted in costsavings to new treatment plant;reduced initial capital cost requirements and operationand maintenance costs; and,community support for projects.
